Morgan City, LA -Community College Week has released their 2014 Top 100 List.  South Central Louisiana Technical College's Marine Safety Center is ranked third (3rd) nationally in terms of total short-term certificates.  The College placed in the top 10 nationally on numerous occasions over the last few years.  In the past year, a total of 3,783 maritime and petroleum safety certificates were issued at SCLTC's Young Memorial Campus.  This accomplishment is directly associated with the massive increase in demand for skilled workers in South Louisiana.

Earl Meador, Chancellor of SCLTC and Fletcher Technical Community College (Fletcher) stated, "In the years ahead, our community can expect even more success from our colleges and the region that we are honored to serve.  South Central and Fletcher are embarking on a new error of cooperation, creating a synergy that will benefit our region, the State of Louisiana, and the entire Gulf of Mexico region for generations to come.  Our communities can and should expect more from our colleges as this partnership between the two (2) schools gives us new and better ways to grow the workforce of tomorrow, today."

SCLTC's Marine Safety Center was established fifty years ago to meet the needs of a growing oil and gas industry.  The department's goals are to provide trained workers who meet the requirements and demands of the offshore oilfield environment. These goals have been consistently met and exceeded from the Center's inception through today.
