Community and Technical College Board Unanimously Approves
Our Louisiana 2020: Building the Workforce of Tomorrow Six-Year Plan

~Plan Includes Six Bold Goals to Shape Louisiana's Future~

BATON ROUGE, La. - Today, the Board of Supervisors for Louisiana's Community and Technical Colleges unanimously approved an aggressive six-year plan to build a better Louisiana by significantly boosting the skills and earnings power of its citizens.

Known as Our Louisiana 2020: Building the Workforce of Tomorrow, the plan embraced by all 13 community and technical colleges sets a bold agenda for Louisiana that includes quickly expanding its pool of highly skilled workers.

The plan's six goals address the workforce development needs of the state amid unprecedented capital investment. The goals are:

Goal 1:  Double the Number of Graduates to 40,000 Annually

Goal 2:  Double the Earnings of the Annual Graduating Class to $1.5 Billion

Goal 3:  Quadruple Student Transfers to Four-Year Universities to 10,000 Annually

Goal 4:  Double the Number of Students Served to 325,000 Annually

Goal 5:  Quadruple Partnerships with Business and Industry to 1,000 Annually

Goal 6:  Double Foundation Assets to $50 Million

"I am proud to be a part of a team with the courage to take on what we know is one the most important issues facing Louisiana today," said Monty Sullivan, president of Louisiana's Community and Technical Colleges. "The commitment embodied in these goals is to deliver the workforce Louisiana needs now and in the future. Louisiana's community and technical colleges accept this challenge and we look forward to delivering on the promise of this plan for a better Louisiana."

Governor Bobby Jindal said, "Since taking office, we've been committed to investing in our community and technical colleges because we know they are a pipeline of skilled workers for the companies that are expanding in our state. That's why we've invested hundreds of millions of dollars into community and technical college campuses across Louisiana since 2008. This plan will help us connect more of these students with great careers, and it will help us continue Louisiana's economic momentum for years to come."

The economic forecast for Louisiana over the next five to 10 years is without precedent.  Companies focused on growing their operations and relocating to the state are investing upwards of $60 billion in Louisiana. The skilled employees these companies will hire as part of that growth numbers in the tens of thousands. This will mean unparalleled opportunity for good-paying jobs for the people of Louisiana, and its community and technical colleges must ensure that all Louisiana citizens have the opportunity to fully participate in this historic opportunity by equipping them with the skills these companies need. Louisiana's community and technical colleges are committed to addressing these workforce challenges.

"As we mark the end of the formative years of the system of colleges, we turn our attention to Louisiana and its future," said Board Chairman Woody Oge. "Our board believes the only way for us to meet the needs of this great state is to be aggressive and embrace the workforce challenge head on.  This plan does that, and it sets the stage for future generations to learn and earn by securing good-paying jobs right here in Louisiana."

The Our Louisiana 2020: Building the Workforce of Tomorrow plan was developed over several months of close collaboration with business and industry leaders, economic and workforce experts, K-12 and higher education officials, students, and college leadership. The process was designed to ensure that the precise challenges of the state, business and industry and the needs of students were understood as the strategy was developed. The outcome is the six goals the Board of Supervisors endorsed today.
